The second beach on the north coast is Haad Maenam. It is roughly13 km (8 miles) from Nathon and 6 km (4 miles) from the airport. The 4-km (2 ¼-mile) long stretch of beach is fairly isolated and quiet. The golden yellow sand underfoot is a little coarse and the beach is pleasant but quite narrow. The sea is good for windsurfing and you can rent catamarans. The waters are calm most of the year and the beach is an ideal location for families with small children.You can have an excellent and clear view of Koh Phangan from the restaurants along the beach. In addition to the deluxe-class Santiburi Resort which provides dependable five star luxury to those who can afford it, numerous budget hotels and bungalows have sprung up. The nights can be quiet in Maenam. Maenam has zero in terms of nightlife, due to the near absence of bars and clubs. For nightlife you have to head south to Chaweng, ahich is a ten minute ride away by car or motorbike.
