"Manohra Cruises" provide guests an opportunity to experience and explore the charm of Bangkok's floating markets, gorgeous temples, river-front homes and traditional river lifestyle, while sampling the refreshing cocktails in luxurious comfort.
It is hard to imagine how the menu specially features a wide selection of classic Thai dishes to 'fit' with many of the historic sites that come across during the cruise.
Before the river adventure gets underway, a traditional Thai appetizer known as Mieng Kam is served. This dish comprises chapu leaves (Piper sarmentosum) folded into a cone shape and put slices of roasted coconut in first, then filled with dried shrimp, follow with other ingredients used in popular Thai condiments, such as chili, shallot, ginger, lime, peanuts and red onion, topped with a popular Thai sauce, and eat in one bite. The recipe of this Thai sauce on the Manohra is unlike those found at other restaurants, and it is exceptionally yummy.
Hot and classic dishes
A spicy and sour fruit salad dish was served along with some spring rolls for starters, followed by a bowl of Tom Yum Kung ('sour and spicy shrimp soup'), one of the kingdom's best known culinary delights. This dish is almost synonymous with Thailand, and in a similar way, so are the first two major riverside attractions during your cruise – Wat Arun ('The Temple of Dawn') and Wat Phra Kaew ('The Temple of the Emerald Buddha').
As the cruise continued, including many more historic sites alongside the banks of the Chao Phraya, guests prepared for the main course, which comprises Mussaman Nuea ('Thai Mussaman beef curry'), Kai Pad Medmamuang Himmaphan ('Stir-fried chicken with cashew nuts'), and Kung Lai Suea Sauce Kai Khem ('Tiger prawns topped with salted-egg, gravy and deep-fried red onions').
These dishes boasted many of the most significant flavors found in Thai cuisine and this point during the meal – as guests took in the sparkling lights of Rama VIII Bridge -signaled the start of the Manohra's return journey to the Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa.
As the cruise returned back along the river, guests were served one of the kingdom's best known desserts – Khao Niew Mamuang ('Mango and sticky rice topped with coconut milk'), along with a beverage, such as fruit tea or coffee. This was a relaxing phase of the meal. A nice gentle, cool breeze blew across the river as guests slowly eased their way towards the end of this luxury journey.
The dinner cruise presents two different packages. The Silver package features five dishes, starts at 1,250 baht ++ (US$36.75), while the Gold package, featuring nine dishes, starts at 1,990 baht ++. Please note that the menu changes every Wednesday, if you have any particular demand regarding your diet, it may be worth checking in advance.
